Living Our Faith

"And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all He has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice -- the kind He will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship Him." Romans 12:1

Let us pray

Pastor Fred will be leading the service on Sunday as Pastor Aaron is away for a classical appointment.

Last night I watched the news in horror as videos of the wildfire engulfing parts of Fort McMurray were shown. The videos showed what Peter Mansbridge noted was an "almost apocalyptic" scene.

If you haven't heard much about the wildfires yet, here's a link to a story on the CBC website. And here's a live blog that is being updated in real time.

Help as far as firefighters, equipment, and supplies is on the way to fight this ugly, nasty fire.

At this time, let us pray. Pray the words of Psalm 46:1 -- "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble." Pray for the residents and the firefighters and all those affected by this disaster; people have lost their homes, their memories, and most drove away from Fort McMurray with only the clothes on their backs. Pray also for rain and a change in weather as this fire weather map shows that there is a great risk for more fires.

We might feel helpless as we see the videos of the wildfire, but we are not. We can pray.

I was reminded while watching the news last night that it can be something like a list of prayer requests. Often I just watch and take in the information, but what if I made a note of 2 or 3 stories, like the people of Fort McMurray, and prayed for them? That's a spiritual discipline that I know we all can do.

As you read the news, or watch it this evening, make a note of some of the things that you can pray for. And together, let us pray.
