Our Scripture reading for tomorrow is Psalm 30. We will also celebrate together the sacrament of the Lord's Supper.

To prepare for tomorrow I invite you to read through Psalm 30 and also 1 Chronicles 21:1-22:1.

Sometimes when things are going well we fall into the trap of believing that we are the reason why things are going well. We think it's all because of our efforts, because of all our hard work, because of our determination. Even if we just think that way about little things, it can expand into how we think about everything.

It's the sin of pride and we all deal with it in one way or another. We say, "Look at what I did!" We look to our accomplishments, our job, our bank accounts and think that our security lies among those things. Pride makes us think that we are the ones in charge of how our life turns out.

Psalm 30 provides a needed correction against that thinking. It provides a needed correction against the myth of the "American Dream" and reminds us that our security, our comfort, our salvation rests in God alone (and not us).

Tomorrow we will hear (and taste and see) how this truth from Psalm 30 points us to the cross of Jesus and to the Lord's table. And we will give thanks to God, and praise His name, for all that He has done for us.
